Bolivar v. Marshfield

Gm v. Marshfield 9-22-09

Win 4-1; Tristia Patton WP, 7 K

Hits: Haleigh Brown, RBI; Bekah Patton double, RBI, Jessie Bruce RBI; Sarah Magaña double;

Bolivar took a 1-0 lead in the 1st after a lead off walk and 2 stolen bases by Addie Murders and a ground out by Haleigh Brown to drive her in.

Marshfield tied it at 1 in the 3rd after a leadoff hit, sacrifice, and a 2 out hit.

Bolivar took the lead for good in the 4th. Bekah Patton led off with a walk and stole 2nd. Jessie Bruce singled, driving in Patton. Jaelyn Halbrook pinch ran for Bruce and Sarah Magaña hit a double to center. Halbrook was thrown out at the plate and we couldn’t score Magaña, but the energy level definitely changed. The 5th was quiet.

In the 6th, Marshfield led off with 2 singles, but a strikeout, a ground out and a fly out to Megan Vest in right, ended the threat. During the home half of the 6th, Haleigh Brown led off with a single and Bekah Patton doubled, driving in Brown, Bruce walked and stole 2nd and Patton scored on a wild pitch. A pitching change led to 2 loud outs as Magaña and Tristia Patton both sent outfielders deep to make plays.

The 7th was uneventful for Marshfield as the bottom of the lineup grounded out to Rachel Schrader at 2nd and Patton struck out the last 2 batters to end the game.

This was a very exciting win for the Liberators. Any time you beat Marshfield, it feels good. It also puts us right back into the thick of the COC race. 3-1 with 1 game remaining. We need some help from Reeds Spring (tonight) or Marshfield next week, to get Rogersville, but we have a chance. We were outhit tonight 5-3 but we hit the ball much better than Marshfield. Their defense made some really nice plays to keep us at 4. We took advantage of 5 walks while giving them zero. The girls are playing with confidence right now and we hope that continues.

Records: Varsity - 10-7, (3-1 COC); JV - 6-2, (3-0-1 COC)

JV- won a tough game with Marshfield 8-7. Our girls did an outstanding job tonight. We were able to get a lead and hold off Marshfield for the win. We are proud of the progress these girls are making. We are learning to adjust to different pitching styles, playing solid defense and scoring runs.
