Gm 18 @ Nevada 9-24-09
Lost 4-2;
Hits: Haleigh Brown; Bekah Patton; Tristia Patton;
Nevada took a 1-0 lead in the 1st after a 2 out double, stolen base and single. Bolivar tied it at 1 in the 3rd, with Tristia Patton singling. Jaelyn Halbrook ran for her stealing 2nd base, advancing to 3rd on a wild pitch and scoring on a throwing error by the catcher.
Bolivar took the lead 2-1 in the 4th when Haleigh Brown singled and Bekah Patton singled. Brown was out at the plate after a wild pitch, but Patton moved to 3rd, and scored on a delay steal.
We threatened in the 5th after a walk, an error and a fielder’s choice. Sarah Magana was called out at the plate on a squeeze play that would have extended the lead.
Bolivar had the game get away in the 6th when Nevada put 3 runs on the board and went quietly in the 7th.
We lost Sr. 3rd baseman Jessie Bruce in the bottom of the 1st to a leg fracture. It was a very difficult situation for all of us, but I was so proud to be wearing blue and gold at the end of the night. Our girls did a tremendous job of fighting through adversity. This is the type of situation that no one wants to endure. It was placed on us and we had to reach down deep. Taking the lead and holding a good Nevada team in check for 5 innings was a real indicator for this team. In the end, they found a way to push across 4 runs and we had 2. The next biggest challenge is to get on a bus drive to Hollister and play again. It is a big game for us, because we can clinch the COC championship with a win. I think we are looking forward to the challenge.
