What a year!
Bolivar Softball ended its season today with a 6-2 loss to Republic. However, Bolivar earned its 20th win on Friday night with a 4-2 win over Reeds Spring.
The district championship game came down to a single swing of the bat. With the bases loaded in teh first, Republic lined a hit into left center to clear the bases with a controversial call made at the plate that would have ended the innnig and denied Republic their 3 run. However, Bolivar hung on to the game until the 5th. In that inning Republic plated 3 insurance runs to effectively end the game, or so they thought. Bolivar threated in the 6th but were unable to get that big 2 out hit. Then in the 7th, Bolivar scored twice to get the final of 6-2.
The loss ended the High School career of Jess Rumfelt, Dani Sharp, Jordan Halbrook, Rachel Terrell, Katy Roweton and Lindsay Lehman. Good luck to each of those ladies as they go on with their Senior year.
The Liberators ended their 2008 competition with a 44-11 record (summer and fall combined)

19-6
Bolivar Softball lost thier first game in the last 12 on Tuesday night in Branson. Bolivar jumped out to a 5-0 lead, but Branson clawed back and took the lead in the bottom of the 6th, 7-6. Bolivar then scored in the top of the 7th to tie the score at 7-7.
The tie was short-lived however, as Branson scored a run the the bottom of the 7th with 2 outs to claim the win 8-7. It was Senior Night in Branson.
Bolivar next takes on the winner of the Reeds Spring (12-9) and Buffalo (1-22), Friday night at 6:30 in Reeds Spring.

19-5
WHEW! What a night. On Senior night the Liberators win 3-2. But that isn't 1/2 the story. Bolivar and Camdenton faced off for 9 innings and the score was tied at ZERO. In the top of the 10th, Camdenton got a runner on and tried to sacrifice. We did not get the call at second and Camdenton had runners at 1st and 2nd with no outs. Camdenton bunted again and we did not get the runner at 3rd. Bases loaded and no outs. Eventually, Camdenton did score 2 and Bolivar recorded 3 outs taking us to the Bottom of the 10th. Jordan Halbrook led off with a single, Katy Roweton hit into a fielders choice and Addie Murders singled to right. Roweton went to 3rd and Murders took 2nd on the throw. With one out, Jess Rumfelt singled and the Centerfielder misplyed the ball and the score was tied with a runner at second. Bolivar did not score and that took us to the 11th. Bolivar scored with one out as Haleigh Brown grounded out and Jess Bruce scored the game winner.
The win improves the Bolivar record to 19-5 with only Branson standing in the way of a 20 win season.

COC Small School Division CHAMPS
Congrats to the Liberator Softball team on the victory tonight at home against Hollister 5-0. Jess Rumfelt tossed her first no-hitter of the season. In the past 5 games, Jess has allowed a total of 4 hits. Bolivar has not lost a game since the Ozark tournament September 13. During that time, we are 9-0, scoring 47 runs and allowing 7. The win toinght improves the team record to 17-5.
I believe that this is the first ever conference championship for Bolivar in softball, although we have had district championships and made 1 quarterfinal appearance. Let's hope we are able to keep it rolling, in the circle, defensively, and at the plate.
On the season, Bolivar has scored 102 runs and allowed 25.

16-5
Liberator softball kept rolling Thursday at home versus a good Nevada team. Jess Rumfelt threw her 4th consecutive 1 hitter. She went 6 and 2/3 innings of no hit ball and gave up a single to right, (the ball probably should have never got to the grass and a close play at first right to 1st, almost ended the game).
Bolivar scored single runs in every inning but the 4th but added 2 in the 5th for a 6-0 win. The JV lost 8-2.

CHAMPIONS - COC Small Division
The Bolivar Liberators have clinched no worse than a tie in the Central Ozark Conference, Small School Division. This came after the Liberators defeated Marshfield 1-0 on the strength of Jess Rumfelt's 3rd consecutive 1 hitter. With the score tied at 0-0 after 5 innings, Bolivar's Katy Roweton scored on a wild pitch with 2 outs. The win pushes the win streak to 7. During the streak, Bolivar has scored 36 runs and allowed 7.
Bolivar next takes on Nevada at home Thursday, 9-25-08 at 5 PM. Bolivar can win the COC small outright with a victory next Tuesday at home when they play Hollister.
Liberator fans have just 3 more chances to watch the 2008 Liberators at home.

CHAMPIONS - Branson Tournament
Bolivar Softball claimed their 2nd Championship of 3 regular season tournaments for the 2008 season.
Bolivar opened the day by defeating Springfield Hillcrest 3-2 with good pitching, defense, and timely hitting and then defeating Ava 10-1 on the strength of more pitching, defense, and hitting throughout the game.
Bolivar won the preliminary pool and advanced to the 1st place secondary pool. The Liberators took on the host Branson Pirates and by scoring single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings, defeated Branson 3-0. Branson threatened in both the 5th and the 6th but outstanding defense and pitching secured the shutout.
Next came the Championship game against the Willard Tigers. Bolivar and Willard played a scoreless first, then the offense got rolling. Bunting, slapping, and errors provided Bolivar's first 6 runs and in the bottom of the 5th, Bolivar scored twice more to end the game by run rule 8-0.
CONGRATULATIONS to the CHAMPIONS!

2 more WINS
Liberator softball has added 2 more wins to the season total with a 7-1 win over Clinton and a 4-3 win over Logan Rogersville. The latest a 4-3 thriller found the Liberators 3-0 in the COC small division standings, tied with a strong Marshfield team. Circle September 23 on your calendars. The Libs travel to take on the Blue Jays in what will most likely be for the COC small Championship. There are only 3 home dates remaining if you would like to see the 2008 Liberators play at home.

High School now 8-5
The Liberators are now 8-5 after a rough weekend. Bolivar started the week at El Dorado Springs with a victory. Next we played Buffalo at home and got a much needed breather, winning 11-0.
Thursday, Bolivar traveled to Reeds Spring and while being up 4-1 in the 6th inning, the bats came alive, scoring 7 in the sixth and finishing with an 11-2 win.
Next came the Ozark Tournament. Bolivar opened with a 5-4 loss to Rolla on Friday and then bounced back for a 4-0 win over a good Strafford team. Then Saturday happened. Bolivar lost to Lees Summit West 1-0 and then again failed to score in the last game of the tournament losing to Ponca City, OK 2-0.
Hopefully, we will be able to rebound this week with 6 games on the schedule.

High School CHAMPS @ Ash Grove
The Varsity won the Ash Grove Tournament Saturday. Game 1 was an 11-0 victory over Sarcoxie. Game 2 was a 2-0 victory over Monett. In the Championship game, Ashley Payne hit a bases loaded double to end the game by the score of 3-2.
With the score tied 2-2 in the the bottom of the last inning, the Liberators loaded the bases with only one out. Sarah Magana had a hit to get it started, Megan Vest walked, and Jordan Halbrook added an infield hit to load the bases. Ashley then hit a 2-1 pitch to the fence to clear the bases, but the game officially ended as the first run crossed the plate. Congratulations to the Liberators and a good start to the season.
The season started August 26 at home versus a very good and solid Warsaw team. The Liberators opened the season with a nice 3-1 victory. The JV had a nice come from behind win scoring twice with two outs to win 10-9 in their final at bat.
Thursday 8-28-08 found the Liberators in Ozark to take on a very good Ozark team. Ozark scored 2 unearned runs and the Liberators were only able to push 1 across for the final 2-1 score. Bolivar had its chances in the game, even with the potential winning run on in the top of the 7th, but could not get that big 2 out hit. The JV lost 3-1 but also had the potential winning runs aboard, but just like their varsity counterparts, could not get that big hit to score in their last at bat.
The Liberator softball team has started the 08 season 4-1 with a tough week ahead. They face Class 4 nemesis Willard at home on Tuesday and travel to play district foe Reeds Spring on Thursday.

Inspiration - Making the most of what we have.
Take a moment, watch the video and read the article from the Boston Globe from April.
I believe that you will appreciate the message. It's a story about a catcher without legs - this is a young lady that does extremely well. What a lesson for so many of us complaining, sometimes, for very little things.

Our season came to a close with an un-official second place finish, due to the fact that our third game was rained out. It wasn't the most pleasant day for a tournament, with the heat index hovering around 100 degrees, but our girls fought through it and played hard. We had a slow start, losing to Poison, a team we beat during a June tournament. But we came back to pick up a win against Weabeleau. Our bats warmed up by the 2nd game, which allowed us to use our aggressive base running to score a few more runs. Brittany Wood did a nice job pitching through near exhaustion with the sweltering temperatures. Becca Roweton had a great day at the plate, bunting and slapping her way on base, going 3-5 for the day. These girls had a great season, finishing 18-10. They grew a lot as players, and as a team, and we are already looking forward to next season. It was a pleasure to have the opportunity to coach them this summer. - Kyle Hedges

We completed our season with a tournament championship and 21 wins. I was very happy with each of our pitchers today. It was very hot and we tried to move girls around to keep them fresh. I was proud of the way our girls competed all summer. We improved every day and the girls showed a great deal of devotion and perseverance. We had a great group of athletes who are dedicated to being the best they can be. We pushed them to get better every day and they responded very well. I am proud to be associated with this group and I think we will continue to get better.

We played very well tonight. After an easy win in Game 1, it was important to come out strong against a good HBC team. We did that by holding them scoreless and scoring 6 in the first. They answered by scoring 3 in the 2nd and 2 in the 3rd. Anna Pitts threw out 3 would be base stealers in the game and that was a huge lift to our defense and really kept them from having a chance to beat us. It is fun to see these girls perform. Morrisville's pitcher pitched a heck of a game. Our girls couldn’t get much going on the offensive side; we had trouble getting the ball in play. Defensively we played well enough and put ourselves in a position to win the game but came just a little short. I'm proud of the way the girls played in this tournament, it was a good test for them. Thursday 7-10-08 BSC v. Springfield Parkcrest Angels. W 14-0 (winning pitcher – Abby Toler)
Leading Hitters: Taylor Sechler 2 hits (double); Jaelyn Halbrook, 2 hits (double); Brook Townsend, double; Brittany Briggs

Leading Hitters: Anna Pitts 3 hits, Taylor Sechler 2 hits, Abby Toler 2 hits, and Jaelyn Halbrook 1 hit.
We came out strong and took a 7-1 lead into the 5th, but we had some breakdowns defensively when they tied it up in the 5th and we could not get a run across in the bottom half and we ended in a tie. The girls were very upset about “losing” which is a great sign for the future. We have not lost a game since the middle of June and winning is becoming a very good habit. – Jamie Halbrook

GM 2 – v. Morrisville L, 12 – 3
Leading hitters: Taylor Sechler and Anna Pitts had hits.
We did not play the brand of softball we had been playing. We were on our heels at the plate and in the field. We have to be aggressive and use our speed and strength. 5 of our 9 outs (time limit) were strikeouts.

We started out the evening playing a solid game against the Diamonds, beating them for the 3rd straight time. But things went downhill from there. We struggled both offensively and defensively against Chaos. We couldn't get runners on base to make anything happen. We got down a few runs early, then it seemed the girls just lost their confidence, and then the wheels really fell off. I think/hope the girls learned something from this, that playing very solid softball throughout the last 5 weeks, doesn't guarantee things won't get tough. The girls played very well last night. Defensively we only had 1 miscue in 10 innings, and offensively we put 30 balls in play. These girls have won 11 of their last 13 and continue to improve every week. During the Diamonds game, we entered the bottom of the 4th inning tied at 2-2. Our bats lit up, and we scored the maximum 6 runs allowed. Brandi Kolody drove in 2 of those runs with a double. The last 2 runs were the result of a 2 run home run by Mariah Periman. Mariah really found the center of the ball during her at-bat. It was a great way to end the inning. - Kyle Hedges

The Panthers hit the ball very well, and seemed to have runners on all night, but we made some very good plays, and some even better throws to keep them from taking advantage. It seemed that we just kept getting outs at the right time. They were a nice challenge for us, but we finished strong and completed our 19th straight win. – Nathan Rothdiener

MO LIGHTNING Tournament
Results:
10U - 3-0 CHAMPIONS
12 Blue - 3-0 CHAMPIONS
12 Gold - 1-2 3rd
14U - 2-1 3rd
Bolivar Softball Club 9-3 on the day! What a great showing.
Thank you to all the parents for ALL of their work; Thank you to the coaches for ALL of their work; Most of all thank you to the players for giving their best for each game. I am so proud of the work that has taken place and the improvements each player has made.
We were the "talk" of the tournament, 4 teams, WOW, what are you guys doing in Bolivar?
That is a question that I answered many times, I appreciate each of you players, parents, and coaches. What a great group. I will get pictures from the tournament up soon.
Ladies, keep working hard, keep pushing yourselves. Bolivar Softball has a very bright future, because of each of you. I was able to be a spectator today as well, and to see Bolivar (black and) Blue excited and playing hard, getting hit, taking tumbles and getting back up was great; taking the championship pictures was pretty cool too. We were an out away from taking that picture 3 times.
Thank you again,
Coach Jay
P.S. Here is a picture of some fans waiting for our game to begin. OBVIOUSLY, they were not entertained by the Republic - Nixa Game. However, Karen and the rest of us are entertained by them.

2008 PBSG Tournament
Our teams combined for 6 victories and 3 times the other team was just plain lucky!
Congratulations to all the players and parents and coaches. I am certain that every parent and player and coach left the ballpark today with recognition of things to work on and the pride of the many great swings and plays that were made today. I am so proud of our girls.
I took a moment, late in the day to stand with the 14U girls playing behind me, overlooking the 10U girls as they were handing M'ville their 1st loss of the season, and our 12Blues preparing for their next "victim", and saw what we have created. Tent city, coolers, parents running for whatever anyone needed. A sea of BLUE covering the complex and experiencing success. Players and Parents alike were concerned about how the other teams were doing, did you hear about Sarah's grand slam? a sense of unity. Our bonds will grow stronger, each group and each year will bring new challenges, but we don't back down, we EXPECT to win every time out and we know that we are going to have a great time doing it.
This is exactly what we had hoped for more than a year ago, the building of a ministry and softball dynasty: one swing, one chant, one pitch, or out at a time. There will be valleys that we experience and angry days, but in the end, we have already seen what can be.
Thank you for believing.

PBSG Tournament
ALL TIMES are pushed back 2 hours for 6-14-08
10U – 12:30; 4:15; 5:30
12U – 12:30; 3:15; and 5:45 OR 7:00
14U – 11:30; 2:00; 4:30
The physical address to the facility if you use Mapquest or Yahoo Maps – 3250 W Grand; Westside Optimist Club
HWY 13 to I44. West on I44 to West Bypass (HWY160). South on West Bypass to Grand Street. You can only go East on Grand. This is NOT a major intersection. It will be a side road about 1/4 mile BEFORE you get to the Budweiser plant (which is on the west side of 160/Bypass). If you pass the Budweiser plant, you've gone too far. You will travel on 160 for 2 or 3 miles before you come to Grand St. Once you are heading East on Grand, you will be in a residential area. Travel a couple blocks, then the ball park will be on your right (south). It kind of appears out of nowhere (forest on the south side of the road), so don't be surprised if you miss the entrance driveway and have to turn around. The entrance is on the very west edge of the complex.
