9-3-09 v. Reeds Spring (COC)
Win 4-3; Tristia Patton, 6 K in 8 innings
Hits: Haleigh Brown; Megan Vest, RBI; Bekah Patton, RBI; Sarah Magana;
We were down 2-0 in the 2nd when we got on by error and drew 2 walks. We stole second twice (Ashley Payne and Jonna Welch) and were able to force mistakes by the Reeds Spring defense. We scored on wild pitches and tied the game. We stayed tied with some good defense and pitching. There was a lot of excitement, just not on the scoreboard. But in the 8th that changed.
Reeds Spring started the 8th with a runner on by error. She was sacrificed to 2nd and the next hitter grounds to 3rd with the baserunner advancing to 3rd. A wild pitch allowed the runner to score. Sarah Magana led off the bottom of the 8th getting on with a catcher’s interference. She advanced to 3rd on a single by Haleigh Brown only after getting into a rundown between 2nd and 3rd. Brown took second during the rundown. Megan Vest singled, scoring Magana to tie the game at 3. With 2 outs, Bekah Patton singled in front of a diving center fielder to drive in Brown with the winning run.
Tristia did an outstanding job of scattering hits and pitching around errors. We have some work to do to clean up our defense. The mistakes we are making shouldn’t be too difficult to straighten out. Most of the time we are “pressing” by trying to do too much. We have to be able to play the game 1 out at a time at a fast pace. Other errors are happening because we aren’t in good position.
Offensively, we are putting the ball in play much better as a team. There will be nights like tonight and Tuesday (Willard) where we put it in play solidly right at people, then there will be nights like Monday (El Dorado Springs, 12 hits) where we seem to find the holes. We are running the bases hard and putting pressure on people even when we are not knocking the fences over. We are competing every time out and have had our chances in every game this year. We just needed this outcome tonight. The girls are buying into what we are doing and we learning not to “press” offensively. We like a lot of what we see on the field.
JV: Bolivar 13, Reeds Spring 5; Our younger girls are hitting the ball very well and putting pressure on defenses, they are a fun and exciting group to watch. Megan Elliott struck out 6 and wins in relief

El Dorado jumped out to an early 2-0 lead after scoring in each of the first two innings; Bolivar answered with 2 in the 3rd with an RBI double and another RBI on a Sacrifice fly by Rachel Schrader. Then we scored 2 more in the 4th. After Back to back singles by Payne and Bruce, Wood walked and Magana hit a sacrifice fly and Bruce then scored on a wild pitch.
In the 5th, El Dorado Springs scored 3 times taking a 5-4 lead. Bolivar answered again in the bottom half by scoring 5 times. Vest and Schrader led off with walks. Bekah Patton reached on an error and Payne doubled home 2. Jessi then singled home another run and Murders hit another single to drive in one, and Brown singled to drive in the last Bolivar run.
El Dorado Springs did not have another threat going 1, 2, 3 in the 6th. A one out hit in the 7th was erased on a Magana to Brown double play to end the game.
This was a nice way to win one at home. We had quality at bats all night, putting continuous pressure on their pitcher and their defense. We hit some balls very well, and it seemed like even when we did not, we got the bounces today. We had a couple of let downs defensively and gave up some bases that we have not been giving up. That is something we will continue to work on.
JV: El Dorado Springs 1, Bolivar 7; Our young kids are doing a great job of playing the game. The way they work and the way the prepare is a great reflection on this group.

We tied the game 1-1 in the 4th and had the bases loaded with 1 out. Our hitter struck out and our runner was picked off 3rd to end the inning. That was a real momentum switch. We went from an opportunity to take the lead into the 5th to giving up 3 in the 5th and being down 4-1. Ozark scored again in the 7th, for a 5-1 lead. We had the bases loaded again in the 7th with 1 out, but we were unable to get anyone across.
I am encouraged because we are competing well. I am frustrated because we have not been able to get the big “at bat” when we need it. I know that it will happen, sometimes we just get impatient and try to do too much, players and coaches.

We were able to get our first win of the season. Haleigh, Addie, Megan, and Ashley really stepped up to get us going early and we were able to play well enough to make it stand up.
Brittany was able to get her first Varsity win and we are proud of the progress she has made and continues to make. She is doing a very good job and we expect her to be a vital part of our pitching staff.
Gm #3 v. #6 Fair Grove (5th place game)
Win 9-4
Megan Elliott, WP; 2 2/3 IP in relief allowing 3 base runners. Megan got her first Varsity win. She came in and shut down Fair Grove. She is making good progress and is a very important part of our pitching staff and will be for years to come. We have grown to expect this kind of performance from Megan. They way she pitched this summer and has pitched so far this fall is a big lift for us.

Time limit was running out and we trailed 4-1; with a runner a second and 2 outs, Jessie Bruce singled home a run to bring the score to 4-2; Sarah Magana singled and Sammy Jacobson bunted for a hit to load the bases. Addie Murders hit a double to score 2 and tie the game. Haleigh Brown reached on an error, Ashley Payne singled, Bekah Patton walked. Megan Vest singled bring home the 8th run of the inning. We held in the bottom of the inning making the final score 9-4. We had 9 consecutive at bats with 2 outs and we stepped up to the challenge. We had been frustrated at the plate all day, it was nice to see the girls have the success they had. It could be a very positive step forward for our season.
We are getting good leadership from our seniors, Haleigh Brown, (2nd Team All District), Ashley Payne, (2nd Team All District), Jessie Bruce, (2nd Team All District), Megan Vest, Rachel Schrader, (1st Team All District/1st Team All COC), and Bekah Patton. They expect to win and that is a key ingredient to any team.
So far this year, we have played 5 games with a wide range of competition. We have been in close games every time. What we need to is the confidence that we are better than most teams and equal to the top teams. When we start playing with that kind of confidence, we will see some nice results.

09 Season Underway

We scored in the first after Addie doubled, stole 3rd and advanced home on a throwing error by the pitcher. They scored in the 1st and then in the 2nd to take a 2-1 lead and then scored again in the 4th to push the lead to 3-1.
We had chances late in the game. We scored in the 5th to make it 3-2 but could not get the tying run across. In the 7th, Tristia hit a 2 out double and advanced to 3rd on an error but we couldn't get that run across.
Warsaw is a very good team. They were 20-4 last year losing in sectionals after losing to Bolivar in the opener at Bolivar. They return everyone and look like they could make a nice run in October if everyone stays healthy. We competed very well and I am proud of our efforts. We just need to find ways to get more runs across and get the 2 out hits.
It doesn't get any easier, we host Ozark Thursday and go to Ash Grove for a Tournament on Saturday. Monday we have El Dorado Springs at home and go to Willard Tuesday.

09 BHS Liberators
As we wind down week 1 of practices, I am very encouraged with our progress. We have accomplished many things, but there are many more on the "to do" list. I am pleased with the overall effort, but there is always room for improvement.
We will conclude our 6th practice Friday. Enjoy your weekend.

If you are interested in getting into the dunk tank, please let me know. Bring your physicals. You are not allowed to participate until I have your physical. You can order your 2009 BHS Liberator T-shirts and apparel as well. We will introduce BSC teams as well as the HS team. There will be desserts, a dorkball game with siblings, and a wiffle ball game with dads.

The girls did a good job on defense and Megan Elliott did another outstanding job in the circle. We hit the ball well enough and put runners on to keep pressure on the defense and score runs. This group is developing well.

This is the game we have been looking for. Tristia did a very good job in the circle. They scored a couple of cheap runs. We know they are a good offensive team and Tristia kept them off balance and our defense was solid again keeping them from getting anything serious going. Offensively, we saw their best and we were able to rattle her. We had some loud hits from Summer and Sammy that started and ended a big 6 run inning to effective end the game. The girls did a great job tonight.

We didn't come out strong like we usually do & the score showed that. FG hit the ball well. They won the game in the 1st inning. They scored 6 and we could never get a lead. I have every confidence that we will learn from this game’s experiences.

We didn't come out strong like we usually do & the score showed that. FG hit the ball well. They won the game in the 1st inning. They scored 6 and we could never get a lead. I have every confidence that we will learn from this game’s experiences.
