2011 Game Recaps

All District Honors
Sarah Magaña, Jaelyn Halbrook, and Tristia Patton each earned 1st Team All District honors. Sammy Jacobson, Taylor Sechler, and Summer Rash were both selected to the 2nd team.

Gm 29 v Nevada 10-8-11
Lost 4-1; L - Patton (18-11)

Hits: Jaelyn Halbrook double, RBI; Sarah Magaña; Summer Rash; Taylor Hedges

We played well and stayed focused throughout the game. The difference in the game came in the 1st inning. A 3 run home run with one out proved to be the difference. They added a run in the 6th on a strange play.

We had some chances to score but couldn't get the 2 out hit that you need to win games like this. Our run came in the top of the 3rd when Taylor Hedges led off with an infield single and Jaelyn Halbrook hit an RBI double down the left field line. In the 6th, we had another chance to pull within 3-2 when Taylor Sechler lined to 3rd and Sarah Magaña was doubled off of 3rd. It was just a case of bad luck.

We finished 18-11. District runner up and COC Tri-Champs. We did some nice things on the field, but I told our players that the greatest accomplishment was what we accomplished off the field with the "Teal Out" game. We were able to give more than $3500 to help a family in need.

We did not meet all of our goals in the end, but we learned some valuable life lessons this season. This is a very special group of young ladies and were successful on the field, but each of them will be even more successful in life.

Gm 28 v Marshfield 10-6-11
Won 3-2 (8); W - Patton (18-10)

Hits: Jaelyn Halbrook triple; Sarah Magaña (2) double; Tristia Patton (2) triple 2 RBI; Taylor Sechler double, RBI; Anna Pitts, Taylor Hedges

Tonight took everything we had physically, mentally, and emotionally. We put 2 on the board in the 1st with 2 outs after a Sarah Magaña single and Tristia Patton RBI triple. Taylor Sechler then doubled home Patton. Marshfield scored once in the 2nd and another in the 3rd to tie it up. It stayed that way through the 7th. With the top of the Marshfield order up, they led off with 2 infield single and runners on 2nd and 3rd after an error. An intentional walk loaded the bases with no outs. A fielder's choice got the force at the plate. A strikeout and a line drive to center ended the 7th.

Bolivar shortstop Jaelyn Halbrook led off the 8th with a triple and after the 2nd intentional walk to Magaña and a steal of 2nd, Patton singled home Halbrook.

Marshfield gounded out to the pitcher, popped up to the pitcher, and popped up to short to end the game.

Marshfield beat us earlier in the year and we were pretty focused and energetic all night. We were able to fight out a win. This was a complete team win. We have the defending Class 3 State Champions Saturday. We hope to match our energy and competition level from the last 2 nights. We hope get some baserunners and put some pressure on Nevada. Hopefully, we will be able to string some hits together, play solid defense, and pitch the way we can.

Results:
10-5-11: Strafford, 8 - Logan Rogersville, 3
Bolivar, 12 - Buffalo, 0

10-6-11: Nevada, 5 - Strafford, 0
Bolivar, 3 - Marshfield, 2 (8)

10-8-11: 12:00 #1 Nevada v. #3 Bolivar

Gm 27 v Buffalo 10-5-11
Won 12-0; W - Patton (17-10)

Hits: Sammy Jacobson (2) RBI; Jaelyn Halbrook (2) double 2 RBI; Sarah Magaña (2) 2 RBI; Tristia Patton; Taylor Sechler (2) 4 RBI; Summer Rash triple 2 RBI; Carlie Proctor; Taylor Hedges

We came out swinging and did not coast. We beat a very good Buffalo team tonight to advance in the tournament. We have a Marshfield team that has already beat us this year tomorrow night. Their pitcher is very good and is a senior, she is pitching like she has something to prove this year. Hopefully, we will be able to string some hits together, play solid defense, and pitch the way we can.

Gm 26 v Branson 10-4-11
Lost 3-2; L - Patton (16-10)

Hits: Sammy Jacobson; Jaelyn Halbrook triple; Sarah Magaña; Tristia Patton; Carlie Proctor; Taylor Hedges

Branson is a very solid team. They had a couple of chances they capitalized on and on the other side, we had chances but couldn't get anything going. We finished the regular season 16-10 and have done some things well, hopefully the bats will get going and we can string some hits together for the post-season tournament.

Won 6-0; W - Patton (16-9)

Hits: Jaelyn Halbrook triple; Tristia Patton (2) double; Taylor Sechler (2); Carlie Proctor; Anna Pitts (2); Taylor Hedges (2)

We defeated a solid but young Camdenton team on their Senior Night. We come out focused and played well. We scored 2 in the 5th, the first on a squeeze by Summer Rash, and 2 in the 6th and tacked on 2 more in the 7th. We did a lot of things well tonight. We hope to enter the tournament with confidence against some very good softball teams, beginning with Buffalo. Buffalo is the best 6th seed I have seen in my time at Bolivar.

We have won 8 of our last 9 and 9 of 11. We are playing pretty well at a good time of the year, We just cannot take anything for granted or have an off night.

Gm 24 v. Forsyth

Won 13-3; W Patton 15-9

Hits: Sammy Jacobson (3); Jaelyn Halbrook (2) triple; Sarah Magaña; Taylor Sechler (2); Carlie Proctor; Michaela Rudy; Anna Pitts; Taylor Hedges

We were disappointed with the first game. We had several opportunities, but we couldn't find a way to get a run across. I think we all pressed a little too much. We rebounded well though. We knew Fair Grove was better than the 11-4 game we had played on Thursday, and they proved it. Forsyth was the victim of us finally getting our bats going. They do a very nice job and are a pretty good softball team. We finished 5th because of the 1st round loss, but we had a pretty good day nonetheless.

We defeated a solid but young Fair Grove team on an emotional night. We come out focused and played well early. We were up 10-0 after 2 and I think some changes we made allowed us to relax some. We did a lot of things well tonight. We hope to take confidence into the weekend at the Branson Tournament after we have won six of our last seven.

TEAL OUT - Our Teal Out was a huge success. Our girls did an outstanding job of selling t-shirts and raising the excitement around the event. The community stepped up big and we were able to give more than $2600 to Krsytle's mom to help offset some of the financial strains she has experienced. Nothing we can do will ever fill the void left by Krystle's passing, but I believe it is cathartic to jump in and step up to do what we can do, to help.

Gm 20 @ Hollister 9-27-11
Won 12-0; W - Patton (12-8)

Hits: Jaelyn Halbrook (3); Sarah Magaña (2) double; Tristia Patton (2) triple; Taylor Sechler(3) 2 triples; Carlie Proctor; Abby Martin; Taylor Hedges (2)

We clinched a tie in the COC Small Division with a 4-1 Record (Marshfield and Reeds Spring also 4-1). We did what we were supposed to do. We hit the ball well and played solid defense. Tristia threw a perfect game (5 innings) and looked strong. District seeding is tonight and we expect the #3. We play the Teal Out game on Thursday and go to Branson on Saturday. We like where we are right now as a team. Hopefully we can keep working hard and doing things to get wins.

Hits: Jaelyn Halbrook (2); Sarah Magaña (2), double; Tristia Patton; Taylor Sechler; Carlie Proctor; Summer Rash; Taylor Hedges

It was a great tournament for us. It was a new experience here and the girls did a great job learning more about themselves as a team. We overcame adversity well throughout the tournament and saw several players start playing more consistently to their abilities which is exactly what we hope for over the next few weeks. The game with Joplin specifically stands out to us. We were tied at 1 after 7 and we had missed 2 scoring chances earlier in the game. With 2 outs Joplin scored 3 to take a 4-1 lead. We battled back and had a complete team effort to plate 4 and win on a single by Summer Rash.

Our biggest problem all year has been consistency at the plate and the bats came alive this weekend. We had 53 hits in the tournament to go with 16 walks. Hopefully we can continue to have quality at bats and show good discipline at the plate.

We had 3 baserunners in the game, 2 walks and a hit. Christian Novak is the best pitcher we have seen all year. She was better tonight than what we saw last year and she eventually led Nevada to the Class 3 State Championship. She pitched like the 1st Team All State pitcher she is.

COC Conference Game (7-6, 3-1)

We did some good things but couldn’t put anything together against a pretty good pitcher. The effort was there for us all night but positive results were not. We should still share the COC title with Marshfield and Reeds Spring, but we wanted to take it alone.

We go to Nevada for a 4:30 game on Thursday and play in Springfield Friday and Saturday. Hopefully we can get some things figured out and start accumulating some wins before we head into districts. This is a talented group, we just need to work hard to get better.

We did a nice job of staying focused throughout the game. We pitched well and played good defense. I am pleased with the way we are taking our at bats. We seem to have a good plan right now at the plate. The key is to keep that approach. Especially with the Springfield Tournament and Marshfield and Nevada next week. Our schedule has some big games for us for the next 2 weeks. Hopefully we can continue to make improvements and get on a roll heading into districts.

It was a disappointing tournament for us. We had leads in every game and were unable to add on. That is what ultimately got us. Each of our losses had the feel that with a run or 2 more, we would finish it off. We did not add on to 4-1 leads against Nixa or Republic or a 3-1 lead in the Lebanon game. Defensively we were better and we pitched and hit the ball well, just not good enough to get over the hump. We have to find better chemistry, focus and energy. There are several games left, but we need to make something happen soon.

Hits: Sammy Jacobson, 2 RBI; Jaelyn Halbrook (2), RBI; Sarah Magaña (2) RBI; Taylor Sechler; Carlie Proctor double RBI; Anna Pitts RBI; Abby Martin HR 2 RBI.

Big, Big win over a very good Buffalo Team. We were down and stunned 5-0 after 2 innings. We got on the board with 2 in the 3rd and tied it up in the 4th. No one scored in the 5th or 6th. We led off the top of 7 with a couple of bunt hits. We scored twice on wild pitches and with 2 outs took advantage of an error to score 2 more and then Abby Martin lifted a fly ball to right and she circled the bases for the final runs of an 11-5 victory.

This was a great example of the leadership and determination this team has. We hope to build on this as we head into the Ozark Tournament.

Hits: Sarah Magaña, Tristia Patton double; Taylor Sechler; Anna Pitts; Taylor Hedges

Extremely difficult evening emotionally. Krystle Miranda passed away and our players heard the news during pre game preparations. It was a difficult, but the resolve they showed in the face of real life adversity was amazing. Reeds Spring is a very good softball team. Tristia threw the most "complete" game of her high school career tonight. She allowed just 1 hit and struck out 11. We played solidly behind her and scored enough to win the game.

Too many times we get too focused on sports and lose sight of what is important in life. We are a very blessed group, especially with our health. We cannot take our health, our lives off the field for granted. I am blessed to be a part of the Liberator family.

Lost 6-5; L - Patton (2-2) Bolivar (2-2); Willard (3-0)

Hits: Sammy Jacobson, Sarah Magaña, Tristia Patton, Taylor Sechler, Summer Rash (triple) Abby Martin

We need to clean up the defense but we can take care of that. I have to do a better job of coaching situations.

Gm 3 v Strafford 8-29-11

Won 2-1; W- Patton, (2-1) Bolivar (2-1); Strafford (3-4)

Hits: Sammy Jacobson, triple, RBI; Jaelyn Halbrook (2), RBI, Sarah Magaña; Tristia Patton;

Strafford is a quality team. This was a quality victory over a district opponent. We didn’t kill the ball, but Sammy hit a ball very well that went for a triple, scoring Abby Martin to get us back even in the 3rd and with 2 outs in the 5th we put on the safety squeeze because we felt our speed would beat the defense and we were able to push the score to 2-1. Defensively, we played closer to our ability and even though Tristia didn’t have her best stuff, she was tough enough to battle through it. Overall, we were very pleased with our focus and determination.
