COC Small School Division CHAMPS

Congrats to the Liberator Softball team on the victory tonight at home against Hollister 5-0. Jess Rumfelt tossed her first no-hitter of the season. In the past 5 games, Jess has allowed a total of 4 hits. Bolivar has not lost a game since the Ozark tournament September 13. During that time, we are 9-0, scoring 47 runs and allowing 7. The win toinght improves the team record to 17-5.

I believe that this is the first ever conference championship for Bolivar in softball, although we have had district championships and made 1 quarterfinal appearance. Let's hope we are able to keep it rolling, in the circle, defensively, and at the plate.

On the season, Bolivar has scored 102 runs and allowed 25.

16-5

Liberator softball kept rolling Thursday at home versus a good Nevada team. Jess Rumfelt threw her 4th consecutive 1 hitter. She went 6 and 2/3 innings of no hit ball and gave up a single to right, (the ball probably should have never got to the grass and a close play at first right to 1st, almost ended the game).

Bolivar scored single runs in every inning but the 4th but added 2 in the 5th for a 6-0 win. The JV lost 8-2.

CHAMPIONS - COC Small Division

The Bolivar Liberators have clinched no worse than a tie in the Central Ozark Conference, Small School Division. This came after the Liberators defeated Marshfield 1-0 on the strength of Jess Rumfelt's 3rd consecutive 1 hitter. With the score tied at 0-0 after 5 innings, Bolivar's Katy Roweton scored on a wild pitch with 2 outs. The win pushes the win streak to 7. During the streak, Bolivar has scored 36 runs and allowed 7.

Bolivar next takes on Nevada at home Thursday, 9-25-08 at 5 PM. Bolivar can win the COC small outright with a victory next Tuesday at home when they play Hollister.

Liberator fans have just 3 more chances to watch the 2008 Liberators at home.

CHAMPIONS - Branson Tournament

Bolivar Softball claimed their 2nd Championship of 3 regular season tournaments for the 2008 season.

Bolivar opened the day by defeating Springfield Hillcrest 3-2 with good pitching, defense, and timely hitting and then defeating Ava 10-1 on the strength of more pitching, defense, and hitting throughout the game.

Bolivar won the preliminary pool and advanced to the 1st place secondary pool. The Liberators took on the host Branson Pirates and by scoring single runs in the 2nd, 3rd, and 5th innings, defeated Branson 3-0. Branson threatened in both the 5th and the 6th but outstanding defense and pitching secured the shutout.

Next came the Championship game against the Willard Tigers. Bolivar and Willard played a scoreless first, then the offense got rolling. Bunting, slapping, and errors provided Bolivar's first 6 runs and in the bottom of the 5th, Bolivar scored twice more to end the game by run rule 8-0.

CONGRATULATIONS to the CHAMPIONS!

2 more WINS

Liberator softball has added 2 more wins to the season total with a 7-1 win over Clinton and a 4-3 win over Logan Rogersville. The latest a 4-3 thriller found the Liberators 3-0 in the COC small division standings, tied with a strong Marshfield team. Circle September 23 on your calendars. The Libs travel to take on the Blue Jays in what will most likely be for the COC small Championship. There are only 3 home dates remaining if you would like to see the 2008 Liberators play at home.

High School now 8-5

The Liberators are now 8-5 after a rough weekend. Bolivar started the week at El Dorado Springs with a victory. Next we played Buffalo at home and got a much needed breather, winning 11-0.

Thursday, Bolivar traveled to Reeds Spring and while being up 4-1 in the 6th inning, the bats came alive, scoring 7 in the sixth and finishing with an 11-2 win.

Next came the Ozark Tournament. Bolivar opened with a 5-4 loss to Rolla on Friday and then bounced back for a 4-0 win over a good Strafford team. Then Saturday happened. Bolivar lost to Lees Summit West 1-0 and then again failed to score in the last game of the tournament losing to Ponca City, OK 2-0.

Hopefully, we will be able to rebound this week with 6 games on the schedule.

High School CHAMPS @ Ash Grove

The Varsity won the Ash Grove Tournament Saturday. Game 1 was an 11-0 victory over Sarcoxie. Game 2 was a 2-0 victory over Monett. In the Championship game, Ashley Payne hit a bases loaded double to end the game by the score of 3-2.

With the score tied 2-2 in the the bottom of the last inning, the Liberators loaded the bases with only one out. Sarah Magana had a hit to get it started, Megan Vest walked, and Jordan Halbrook added an infield hit to load the bases. Ashley then hit a 2-1 pitch to the fence to clear the bases, but the game officially ended as the first run crossed the plate. Congratulations to the Liberators and a good start to the season.

The season started August 26 at home versus a very good and solid Warsaw team. The Liberators opened the season with a nice 3-1 victory. The JV had a nice come from behind win scoring twice with two outs to win 10-9 in their final at bat.

Thursday 8-28-08 found the Liberators in Ozark to take on a very good Ozark team. Ozark scored 2 unearned runs and the Liberators were only able to push 1 across for the final 2-1 score. Bolivar had its chances in the game, even with the potential winning run on in the top of the 7th, but could not get that big 2 out hit. The JV lost 3-1 but also had the potential winning runs aboard, but just like their varsity counterparts, could not get that big hit to score in their last at bat.

The Liberator softball team has started the 08 season 4-1 with a tough week ahead. They face Class 4 nemesis Willard at home on Tuesday and travel to play district foe Reeds Spring on Thursday.
